Abstraction Group show at 3S ARTSPACE

Artists' Statement:
Walking the line between figuration and abstraction, this exhibit explores the non-objective role abstract art plays in our culture, perception, and psyche. Using diverse subject matter, four painters created work reflecting their personal experiences. Emergent through this inspiration is a visual language interpreting the world around them.

“Objective painting is not good painting unless it is good in the abstract sense. A hill or a tree cannot make a good painting just because it is a hill or tree. It is lines and colors put together so that they may say something.” --Georgia O’ Keefe

Show is also with the talented #KathleenRobbines and #MJBlanchette #3sartspace

Drive By Art Show during Covid 19

Harvest Gold Gallery in Lovell Maine is hosting my work outside every Saturday until Covid19 is over. The u shaped driveway makes it fun to drive by the art.

They have 12 pieces of my work hanging from their 18 century white farmhouse. The work is of beautiful Impressionistic local mountain landscapes and colorful abstract birch trees.

I first did this drive by art show in front of my house. I took all my paintings from my studio and tied the art safely on to trees in my yard. People could walk by or drive by. They took pictures and later contacted me about which art they would buy. I sent an invoice, delivered the painting over to their house in gloves along with a bottle of champagne to celebrate! This way of enjoying art has been a total blast.

You just never know how art and community works together. Please stop by this Saturday to Harvest Gold Gallery.

Soho Eats and Andy Warhol

I didn’t know it at the time, but I was living down the road from a restaurant that would be an iconic restaurant-Raoul’s. Raoul’s was in Soho, at the corner of at the Art scene back in the day. It served the likes of Warhol. Andy would bring his crew of twelve or so to eat there.. The artwork hanging there was a mish mosh of amazing work, almost like the attic of Christie’s.

Places as these were never advertised publicly. YOU had to be in the know of what was cool, such as Raoul’s. If you knew such a place, you would only tell your favorite three friends.

When I walked by I knew that the steak au poivre., served there was too expensive for me. I was just barely getting by as a Fashion Textile designer back then. Even though, I lived a stone throw away from such a social place, it was out of reach.

For a delightful story about Raoul’s read below

Ronnie Landfield, A Great Abstract Art Teacher.

Ronnie was the first abstract, actually the only abstract teacher I had. I took his class at the Art Students League, NYC, around 1995. A word of advice if you ever go inside the Art Students League, prepare to get paint on your clothes. This institute as been around since, 1875, (145 years of painted walls) which as you can imagine has lead to paint at least three inches thick on each wall. I call it the CBGB’s of the art world, due to the messy walls.

Back to Ronnie, he had a great hands off approach at teaching. He would let all of his students develop their own concepts about abstract art. The best advice he gave me and the only advice he gave me, in class was- just paint out what you don’t like in the painting. I still use that advice today.

His teaching still influence me. What I have retained as lyrical in my work was definitely influenced by Ronnie’s direction. Now that I am a full time painter, I want to say Thanks, Ronnie!!

You can find out more about Ronnie’s work in the article below.

Local Artists Rebecca Klementovich Supports Best Friend, 1300 miles Road Trip

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local Artists Rebecca Klementovich Supports Friend’s Art hike of 1300 miles in Florida

Jan 1, 2020 (Yalala Florida). -This December local artist, Rebecca Klementovich will be on a road trip to the charming, semi-rural community of Yalaha, Florida for January and February.  “My best friend from College has asked for my help in making one of her dreams come true. How could I say, no?." Rebecca says.

Rebecca’s best friend from college, Stella Arbeláez plans to complete a 1300 mile trek through the state of Florida by walking the Florida National Scenic Trail from end to end. Stella asked Rebecca to support her along the way.

Stella Arbeláez and Rebecca Klementovich met at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, where they both studied Fashion and Fine Arts Illustration.  Stella later became a special effects animation artist for the Walt Disney Feature Animation studio in Florida as well as Warner Brothers and DreamWorks in California.  She worked in such movies as "Lion King", "The Iron Giant" and  "Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron Valley", to name a few. Rebecca became a Fashion Textile designer for twenty two years, working on high end women’s clothes lines. After divorces, mother’s deaths and raising daughters, they are reuniting to work together again. Stella and Rebecca have not seen each other in twenty one years.

The plan is for Stella to trek the Florida National Scenic Trail in a three month journey. While on the trail, Stella will be painting and sketching the uniqueness of the Florida landscape. Rebecca will support Stella by caring for her dog and home as well as meeting her at specific locations to resupply her food on occasion. The two artists plan to paint together on some sections of the trail to  share the beauty and diversity that the Florida landscape has to offer. The friends hope to rejoin forces on their goal to become fantastic painters and renew their friendship and dedication to the arts.

“We hope to paint some epic paintings and find some galleries that will sponsor us as well. There is nothing stronger than the bond of friendship and a love of painting. We will be like Monet and Renoir, of the Trails!” Rebecca says.

"Planning and completing a thru hike for the first time is not an easy task. I will have to walk an average of 17 miles per day for 3 months in order to pull this off." Stella said. "Add to this my goal of recording the trail on canvas and paper, and a thru hike becomes the most exciting and challenging art project for me tackle up to date".

Rebecca Klementovich is a full time painter, and a curator at the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, NH. She moved to the Dover area recently, after living in the Bartlett, NH for eight years. She is known for her colorful mountains landscapes, and being the co-founder of the Femme Fatales of the North. You can find out more about her on her website.  www.klementovich.com

Stella Arbeláez moved back to Central Florida five years ago. She is currently working on developing a body of work to launch her career as a fine artist. "The Florida Trail project" is an essential component of this process and goal. You can find more about Stella on her website: www.stellaarbelaez.com

Public Art Mural at Settlers Green 2019

Local Artists Rebecca Klementovich Paints new Public Mural at Settlers Green

Dec 13, 2019 (North Conway, NH). -This December local artist, Rebecca Klementovich painted a huge 13x20 foot mural using the Settler’s Green logo in a fantastic multi- colored design mural. The mural can be found near the Banana Republic store. Dorthea Seybold and her co-workers, did the design which is beautiful Matisse influenced artwork. There are six colors that intertwined with each other in a spectacular way. This public art piece is another example of Settlers Green continuing to expand their commitment to the arts.

Rebecca explains about the process. “The challenge was the weather. The paint needs a temperature of about 32 degrees to dry. So to deal with the current cold temps of about 28 degrees the talented team at Settlers Green built a temporary room around the mural space. I had two heaters and four lights to pull this mural off. It took about four days of painting in the cold. It was worth it!”

“This mural is so large; it reminds me of the Italian Fresco’s in size. I hope this piece in particular will be used for people to take selfies in front of. It’s a fun way to connect to the shoppers and art,” Klementovich said. “It was great fun painting so large. Now that the mural is done, I am going back to painting a new series of Birch trees and Bright Mountains.”

How to Pick Art for your Room

How to choose Art for Interior Decorating a Room

Are you afraid to buy art and make a mistake?

First, most online galleries and private sales will allow you to send back your work and only pay for shipping cost or no costs at all. Look into the return policy. Many times there is no risk to hang art on your wall because you can mail it back.

1. Do you want the Art to dictate the room?

Some home owners like to use the art as the centerpiece of the room. If that is the case, you can pick a main color to use as the one of the wall colors or accents for the room. You can also use two harmonious other colors in the art to also use as accents for the room.

2. Are you using one main piece of art or a few smaller pieces of art in the one room?

You can have the “Main show”, piece of art as a main interest or three to five smaller pieces. Or you can hang smaller pieces together in a grouping, so that the pack of art feels like one piece of art.

3. Keep one element the same

If you hang a group of framed art make sure something has a common thread. For example, all the frames are the same color, all the frames have matts, all the pictures are of one theme, or all the art is in bright colors or muted colors.

Also hang the work in a group of paintings with a equal amount of space between each painting –usually one to two inches apart. You’ll have to hang the work and step away to see if it looks good the space around the art looks good.

3. Echo

Is there an echo or pattern in the art work that you can also find in a print of a pillow or fabric pattern? By reiterating a central theme shape or color from the art- into other parts in the room, you can bring the level of design into a fantastic new level.

For art to look cohesive in your room, it should echo, or repeat something element.. This can often be a color, but it can also be a shape or a pattern. Having three to five elements the same color in one room is a good rule of thumb. This is kind of a universal law of design by using three or five as the amount an element repeats itself in the room give a room, a flow.

4. Art-Where to find it

Local galleries are a great way to support your artists in town (sometimes if you live close by the gallery will let you hang the work at your house before you buy it). On-line galleries are easy too. Pinterest has a large group of artists as well show casing their work. You can simply plug in a subject in Pinterest that you would like to see art of, or a color that you like, or a style of art. Impressionists, Fauvism, Pop art, Graphic, Landscapes of Mountains are a just a few ideas you can use to research art.

Winner of Art in the park

Every year we get together as local artist to do Art in the Park. It is a time where we can see what we have been painting and reconnect with friends, collectors and local people. This art fair has really begun to take off and have higher end artists show their work.

This year I started a new series called Pastoral Landscapes which has a softer palette. The painting that won first prize in Art in the Park, came from this series. It is called Mount Washington and Misty Fields. I was going for the mist that rises from the contrast in weather that happens briefly. I was honored to have won first in show.
