Great Believer of the Uncharted Sea
Great Believer of the Uncharted Sea

It was more common than we think, that wives of the captain were on board. The captain was able to have his family on trips. This modern portrait is of a sea faring wife at sea. This series, uses historical references to help show what type of women were sailing in tall ships in those early centuries.
The juxtaposition of a face laid over a tall ship was a courageous move. It worked out. This painting has more dynamic energy with her sailing on top of the canvas!
This series is painted for women who sailed on tail ships in the 17 and 18th century. I have been enamored with their bravery and unending knowledge and courage. This series is dedicated to them. The most heroic story is the one of the wife of a captain, who would strap herself and her child to the bottom of the ships masts, so they would not blow over into the sea.
